This work has allowed me to explore both the freedom and the limitation offered by pit firing. While I have total control over what I use to build my fire, the resulting surfaces are wild and uncontrollable. I find this surrendering of control to be an essential part of the philosophy behind all my pots, and pit firing is a perfect way to explore that dynamic.
